Secure an official acceptance/confirmation/registration letter from a recognized Swiss educational institution.
Collect all the necessary documents for the National D Visa, submitting three application forms + one original and two sets of copies of all required documents, in the specified order without stapling. All documents should be clear, valid, and authentic.
Documents not in English, German, French, or Italian may need a certified translation.
Schedule an appointment online through the VFS Global website to submit the application in person at the Embassy of Switzerland in New Delhi.
Submit Application
Submit your completed application forms and all required documents in person at the Embassy of Switzerland on the date of your appointment.
Pay the visa fee (currently around INR 8,800 for the Type D visa, though a service charge may also apply).
Provide your biometric data (fingerprints and photograph).
Wait for Processing
The complete application is forwarded to the competent cantonal immigration authority in Switzerland for a decision.
The processing time for a Type D student visa generally ranges from 8 to 12 weeks (or 60 to 180 days) after submission. It is recommended to apply as early as possible, but not earlier than 6 months before your entry date.
Receive Visa and Travel
Upon approval, the entry visa is issued by the Embassy.
After arriving in Switzerland, you must register for a residence permit with the appropriate cantonal migration office within 14 days.
